David Poer's (1744-1808) Potential Family Line Connection Based On Land Records

David Poer 174-1808

David and his wife Sarah Sallie Sanders lived in Anson / Montgomery County near Troy, North Carolina. They had land on Little River.

Frances Fox Poer is a family researcher and direct descendant of the David Poer line. She inherited a family tree that had the name "Ned" written next to David Poer's name. The name Ned is a nickname for the name Edward. Many have written about Edward "Ned" Poer / Powers who owned land in Edgecombe County, North Carolina as being David's father.

The information below helps tie David Poer directly to this line using land grants and what appear to be lifelong family connections.

OVERVIEW:

  • In 1724, Edward Powers Sr. & Edward Powers Jr. witnessed the will of Richard Braswell in Isle of Wight, Virginia.
  • 13 years later in 1737 and 260 miles from Isle of Wight, VA, Ephraim Owen sold land in Bladen County, NC to his "Truly loving friend Edward Pooree". Edward owned land in Edgecombe County, NC at the time which was about 150 miles from the land in Bladen County, NC. This land was about 80 miles away from where David Poer 1744-1808 would eventually own land in Anson/Montgomery County.
  • In 1738 on a land sale involving Edward Poore, the following is included "Poore was Pooree by the oath of John McKimmie".
  • 48 years later (after witnessing the will) in 1772 and 260 miles from Isle of Wight, VA, Richard Braswell had a land grant in Montgomery County, North Carolina with a piece of land that bordered David Pore's (1744-1808) land on Little River. This Richard Braswell is Richard Braswell V and is a direct line descendant of the Richard Braswell in Isle of Wight, VA that Edward Powers Sr. and Edward Powers Jr. witnesses the will signing.
  • 56 years later (after witnessing the will) in 1780 and 200 miles from Isle of Wight, VA, Jacob Braswell (The grandson of Richard Braswell mentioned above) had a land grant in Guilford County, North Carolina "On the waters of Main Fork of Haw River" beginning at John Campbells corner to White oak in ARTHUR PARR's line. Aurthur was born in 1758 in North Carolina and his father was born in Maryland in 1724 and his grandfather was born in 1689 Burbage, Wiltshire, England.
  • The Braswell family seemed to have a very strong connection to the Powers, Poer, Parr etc. family even at great distances. Based on these documented connections, this leads me to believe the family line of David B. Poer 1744-1808 is through Edward Powers Sr. who witnessed the will of Richard Braswell in 1724 in Isle of Wight, Virginia.

I think this one is a written copy by someone later which is why the year is different. I think the year 1749 on this one is a typo as the note at the bottom of the page lists 1761 and being proved in open court like the other listings below. The two other listings list 1759 but the 5 does look a bit like a 4.
