Jeremiah Poore, David Poore & Jesse Poore (Census Records, Land Dispute & Probate)

We have already proven the direct Y-DNA (Male line) connection from Jesse Poore’s line to Jeremiah Poer’s line. You can see that in depth research at PooreFamilyHistory.com

The information below is circumstantial but documented to show the possible direct connections.

  • Jeremiah Poer, Poor, Poore (1754-1850)
  • David Poore, Poor, Power (?-?)
  • Jesse Poore, Poor, Power (1770-1860)

Brief overview:

In 1790 Jeremiah Poore, David Poore, Robert Hester (Jeremiah’s Father in-law) and William Moreland lived in Guilford County, North Carolina.

By 1800 David Poore, Robert Hester (Jeremiah’s Father in-law) and William Moreland lived in Stokes County, North Carolina.

In 1803, Robert Hester dies and leaves some items to David Poor, Jesse Poor, Joseph Moreland, Samuel Kerby and others.

In 1805 Jesse Poore was listed as a bordering property owner in a land dispute in Surry County between Samuel Kerby (Listed in Robert Hester's Probate) and William Moreland (Probably the father of Joseph Moreland listed in Robert Hester's Probate). John Hicks is also listed among the bordering property owners in the 1805 and is also listed in the Probate for Robert Hester.

I’m not sure who David is at this point yet but he has a connection to Jeremiah Poore who Jesse Poore’s line has a very strong Y-DNA connection to.

Robert Hester is the father of Elizabeth Hester. She married Jeremiah Poer in 1790 in Guilford County, North Carolina.

QUESTION: Is David Poor/Power the same person from Guilford County, NC listed near Jeremiah Poer? Robert Hester is Jeremiah Poer’s father-in-law, but I didn’t see his name listed in the probate.

1805 Land Dispute Connection

In 1805 Jesse Poore was listed as a bordering property owner in a land dispute in Surry County, North Carolina between Samuel Kerby and William Moreland. John Hicks is also listed among the bordering property owners in the 1805 and is also listed in the Probate for Robert Hester.

Samuel Kerby (Listed in Robert Hester's Probate)

William Moreland is more than likely the father of Joseph Moreland (Listed in Robert Hester’s probate)

1800 census: Joseph Moreland & William Moreland are listed.

John Hicks

1830 Stokes County, NC Census

John W. Hicks is two names below David Powers. Is this the same John Hicks from the 1805 land dispute that Jesse Poore is mentioned in? Same David mentioned in Robert Hester’s probate and the 1790 census for Guilford County?

OF NOTE: Jesse Poore's daughter Elizabeth Jean Poore married Robert Hicks in Claiborne County, Tennessee. Possibly related to John Hicks.

Also, on the next page there are listings for John Westmoreland and David Westmoreland. Are they from the same family as William Moreland but with a different spelling of the name?
